You will need:
Tape measure, pen or pencil, paper, calculator
This guide is to help you measure for your carpets; however, we do offer a complimentary measuring service, that can be booked when you come into store and choose the carpets that you like. This way it allows us to price you up, once we have the sizes you need.
How to measure the area:
To get an accurate estimate of the carpet needed, measure the length and width of your room at the longest and widest points, including all alcoves and doorways.
Example:
The room below is an illustration of a lounge. It has 2 alcoves; to allow for the chimney breast, it has an entrance door and a door to a dining room. To measure we are looking for the longest and widest points.

When you have these measurements, its always best to add a few more cm (or inches) onto the measurement. We usually say 5-10cm is more than sufficient. We will always ask to make sure that you have added an allowance.
Most carpets come in a 4m or a 5m width. (13ft or 16’5ft) So from your measurements, we would then be able to determine the width of the carpet that you need. In some cases, there may be a need for a “join”. This means that neither the 4m or 5m width is appropriate, so the carpet will be joined together. We try to keep these in areas such as alcoves, for your piece of mind.
To determine the amount of carpet that you would need you need to multiply the length by the width.
Example The room is 4.5m long to the dining room doors, then from the alcove to the door is 3.75cm, the carpet comes in either 4m or 5m width. So to work this out we would do:

4.50cm is the length ADD 10cm = Length 4.60cm
3.75cm is the Width. Carpet comes in 4m width, no need to add extra. Width = 4m
4.60m x 4m = 18.4m of carpet needed.
Draw the diagram of the room if this helps. Then bring this into store and choose the carpet you love. We can use your measurements to price it up, or double check if your unsure.
