Fitting Carpet, or have my carpet Fitted?

So we get this question a fair few times, when people buy their new carpets, shall I fit it myself or should we get LKL to fit it.

In my honest opinion, for the price you pay for a carpet, I would always look to get it professionally installed. ‘We thought you would say that, I hear you cry’ but below I’m going to tell you my reasons behind my thought process.

Carpets come in a roll, now I have mentioned in my previous posts that these are generally 4m or 5m in width. Regardless of the length of the carpet, when the manufacturer sends them to us, they are rolled widthways. So that means you will have to find a way to get a roll of carpet to your address. I’m not saying it’s impossible, fantastic if you have a van or a truck, but not great if you have a car.

Delivery can be arranged to your address, but this is a service that has a charge. If we fit the carpet we bring it with us. Of course in some instances it can be folded to put in a car, but this then leaves you with creases in your carpet, that you need to get out ASAP.

Carpets are heavy, no two ways around it. If you decide to fit a carpet yourself, it is your responsibility to get the carpet in the room that its intended. If we are fitting the carpet, then we take it to the room, you just need to relax.

Carpets might need to be cut down. They won’t be a perfect fit like a rug, where you just lay it out and it’s done. There will be areas that need to be trimmed. This takes a steady hand because one slip and the carpet will be damaged while being cut, especially around doors. But if we fit the carpet, everything is cut to a manageable size for the fitting team. They have the knowledge and expertise to make precise cuts. That brings me to my next point.

The right tools for the job. Do you have the required tools to fit the carpet? By this I mean a sharp Stanley knife, kicker, gripper rods, hammer and spray adhesive. And if you have the tools are you confident in using them. Therse tools are required so the carpet is fit correctly, when getting a carpet from LKL installed, of course the fitters have the correct tools for the job and know how to use them . We have time served fitters, which means that they know their craft and have the scars to prove it.

Taking all these points into consideration, if you still feel you are happy to try, then that is your decision, but as I said for the cost of having it professionally installed, with the knowledge that if YOU make a mistake fitting then there is no way for us to rectify, where as if WE make the mistake this would be rectified for you, is it worth not paying to have your carpets fitted?
