At LKL we specialise in carpet taping and binding this is quick blog to expIain what the terms mean. LKL’s Tiktok, instagram and FB are full of videos on our carpet taping and binding. It is a specialist skill that requires ALOT of practise, and is self taught.

Carpet binding is attaching yarn or tape to raw carpet edges, to prevent fraying and unravelling of the carpet. During carpet manufacturing, large rolls are cut, leaving the edges vulnerable to wear and tear. The binding will extend the carpet’s lifespan by creating a neat and polished edge while enhancing its overall aesthetic appeal.

Carpet Whipping.

Carpet Whipping, is carried out on an industrial sewing machine. The machine “whips” a yarn around the edge to create a finished and professional look. The carpet whipping is perfect for stairs, rugs, hall runners and caravans.

When carpet whipping, im following the cut of the carpet, manipulating and moving as I go. The yarn is stitched directly onto the carpet, making it concise and visually better. Carpet Whipping allowes me to move the carpet as im sewing, allowing me to do intricate areas. This is how i am able to whip caravan carpets from your own templates.

The yarn, is alot easier to manouver than the tape, and is alot more cost effective for the customer.

Carpet Taping.

Carpet taping is again done on an industrial sewing machine, but is a lot more technical than the whipping. This material is called carpet tape and is more expensive than the yarn used for whipping, hence the price difference. The tape comes in a variety of colours and styles and does give a completely different look. We want you to have a stair runner that is what you want, in your particular style.

The taping at LKL is only done for staircases, runners and rugs, we don’t offer this service for caravans. If you look on our stair runner shop you can choose your favourite carpet, then overlay the different tapes that we have to get your desired overall finish.  Again, below are some of the examples that I have taped here at LKL.

Both of these methods are a functional way to change the appearance of your carpet, and regardless of which you choose, they will both look spectacular in your home.
